CEQA & the EIR

CEQA:

The environmental review process for the four top ranked sites began in late 2005, in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  Community outreach meetings have taken place in areas surrounding the four proposed siting alternatives.  These meetings discussed the project as it relates to the local community’s overall concerns and needs.

Sacramento County’s Department of Environmental Review and Assessment (DERA) was the lead agency for preparation of the environmental documents.  Upon completion of the environmental review process, the SWA Board selected a preferred site for the facility.

Intent of the Environmental Impact Report:

The intent of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is to:

  • Evaluate and disclose the potential significant environmental effects associated with implementation of the Sacramento GreenCycle project;
  • List ways in which significant effects might be minimized or avoided; and
  • Identify and evaluate project alternatives.

Draft and Final EIR's:
DERA issued a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on 10/21/09.  After the required public review and comment period a final EIR was presented to the SWA Board for review on 2/11/10.  The SWA Board certified the document on 3/11/10.  The full final EIR can be accessed here.  A chapter page for the Final EIR can accessed here.
